| Lubov met her husband Dennis during officer training at Newport, R.I. They were married at St. Nicholas in 1963 by Father Arkady of blessed memory. Her husband was assigned as weapons officer the destroyer Joseph Strauss, destination, Long Beach, CA. She was assigned to Bethesda Naval Medical Center, where she trained Navy corpsmen preparing to go to war. She was on duty the night President Kennedy's body was brought to Bethesda. “We had to work double shifts because the evening staff could not get in to relieve the day shift,” she said. “The crowds surrounding the hospital made it impossible. Many of our patients had to be consoled. They had lost their commander in chief, and they wept. It was an emotional evening for all.” |
